Henry Holiday (1839-1927) Henry Holiday studied at the Royal Academy Schools and was closely associated with the pre-Raphaelite circle. He succeeded Burne-Jones as chief designer for Powell & Sons in 1862, and worked for the firm until 1891 when he established his own workshop in London. He also provided designs for some of the other major firms. His work is distinguished by its strong classical line and relationship with the architecture. It served to influence the other young designers employed at Powell's which, under Holiday's guidance became the most progressive of the glass-making firms. |
