The Rich Man's Feast, 1898
Designed by James Clark (1858-1943). Made by Arthur J. Dix.
From the church of St John, Windermere.
This parable illustrates the dangers of greed. Clark's travels in the Holy Land provided the authentic details for the costume and other decoration shown here. The 'seedy', shimmering appearance of the glass, is caused by air bubbles deliberately trapped in the mixture.
Clark was a versatile artist who worked in stained glass, watercolours, oils, frescoes and pastels. He is perhaps best known for his haunting First World War painting 'Duty' or 'A Great Sacrifice' (1915).

Inv. No. 1999/2/2 Presented by Carlisle Diocesan Redundant Churches Uses Committee.
