Stamped quarries, c.1850
Made by James Powell and Sons
Original location unknown
Stamped quarries were made by pressing or rolling
soft glass into patterned moulds, producing designs of stylised flowers or
leaves, or copies of medieval bird quarries such as the one displayed in the
medieval section. Once very common, this type of glazing is becoming rare.
Glass painting pigment and yellow stain were applied to the indented pattern,
which was then fired in the conventional manner.
