Head of Christ the Worker, 1978
Designed by Carl Edwards (1914-1985).
Copy of original in Liverpool Cathedral.
This panel was made for the British Society of Master Glass Painters Exhibition in Chartres in 1978. It is a copy of a panel from the huge west window of the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool. The original window is 53 feet in height and illustrates the Benedicite.
The artist has used rich, streaky, slab glass and crisp black painted line to create a stunning effect, which under normal circumstances would be seen at some considerable distance.
Edwards' finest windows, apart from Liverpool Cathedral, are the east lancets of the Temple church in the City of London.

Inv. No. 1993/2 Lent by Caroline Benyon, the artist's daughter.
