Peter, the first apostle to whom the risen Christ appeared, was entrusted with the care of the Christian community, as depicted here. The window was erected in St John's Church, Clifton, Bristol as a memorial to Jane and Louisa Appleton. Margaret Chilton trained at the Royal College of Art and studied stained glass under Christopher Whall, whose influence can be seen in the leading pattern and decorative motifs used in this window. Most of her stained glass is in Scotland, although there are also examples in England, Canada and New Zealand.
