Reynard the Fox, early 15th century.
Anonymous English Artist.
From the Rectory of Holy Cross Church, Byfield,
Northamptonshire.
Here Reynard, a character from Aesop's fables,
dressed as a monk or priest, is preaching to a flock of geese.
Roundels were a relatively cheap form of stained glass, as they used only white
glass and glass paint enriched with yellow stain. White glass was made in
England, unlike coloured glass, which had to be imported.
Inv. No. 1990/7/2 On loan from the Rector and Parochial Church Council.
