Grisaille Panel, c. 1220-00
Windows of a similar style to this are to be found in Hastingleigh Church, Kent and in Salisbury Cathedral, dated between 1220 and 1258. The provenance of this panel is unknown although the style is characteristic of continental Cistercian work. Despite being over 700 years old it is thought that the lead in this panel is original. Close inspection reveals that the leads have faceted edges indicating that they have been planed after being cast. The panel has been cleaned and restored by Alfred Fisher of Chapel Studios.
