Angel with Spear, 1860s
Design attributed to N.H.J. Westlake (1833-1921). Made by Lavers & Barraud
From the church of St Michael, Queen Street, Derby.
Large figures of the Apostles Peter, James, Andrew and John filled the main lights of this window, with angels used to fill the tracery lights, a device commonly used in medieval windows.
N.H.J. Westlake was the author of the four volume A History of Design in Painted Glass, which remains one of the most authoritative works on the history of stained glass. The window has suffered some paint loss, probably from under-firing.

Inv. No. 1983/19/7 Presented by Derby Diocesan Advisory Committee.
