St Peter the Evangelist, 1860s
Designed by Henry Stacy Marks RA. (1829-1898). Made by Lavers and Barraud
From the church of St Michael's, Queen Street, Derby
In this panel from a four-light window, St Peter holds some fish, indicating his occupation and Christ's instruction to him to be a 'fisher of men'.
At the bottom of the window the glass has deteriorated to such an extent that it has lost its transparency. This condition, commonly called 'green glass disease', occurs periodically in the 19th century, a result of an imbalance of chemicals in the glass.
Henry Stacy Marks was a well-known painter and decorative artist.

Inv. No. 1983/19/4b Presented by Derby Diocesan Advisory Committee.
