Christ as King of Glory, 1904
Designer unknown, made by Reuben
Bennett.
East window, St Paul, New Cross,
Manchester.
The designer of this window has not been identified,
but it was made in the workshops of Reuben Bennett, one of a handful of
Manchester firms influenced by the Arts and Crafts Movement in the 1900s. The
window is noteworthy for the extensive use of 'plating', a technique whereby two
pieces of glass are sandwiched within the same (very wide) leads. This method of
creating intense colours was much used by Arts and Crafts designers and by
American Studios such as Tiffany of New York.
Inv. No. 1982/16 Presented by the Diocese of Manchester.
