The Arms of the Worshipful Company of Glaziers, c.1973
Designed and made by Moira Forsyth (1905-1991).
This panel has been made by the appliqué method, in
which one piece of glass is bonded to the surface of another with adhesive.
The Glaziers' Company of London is recorded in the 14th-century list of London
Guilds and its arms were first described in 1588. The medieval company existed
to control admission to the craft and the standards of its members. The thriving
Company still exists today, with a number of practising artist-craftsmen among
its members. It offers scholarships, organises competitions and supports the
conservation and appreciation of stained glass.
Inv. No. 1982/8 Lent by the artist's estate.
