King David, c.1875 Designed by William de Morgan (1839-1917). Nave window, Canons & St Laurence Church, Little Stanmore, Middlesex. David, the shepherd boy who killed the giant Goliath, is here depicted in his equally common guise as the musician King of Israel. William de Morgan was a distinguished designer, ceramicist and novelist. He began his career designing tiles and stained glass for Morris & Co. In 1869 he established his own studio in Chelsea, becoming increasingly disenchanted with the industrialisation of stained glass manufacturing. Inv. No. 1978/9 Presented by the Parochial Church Council. |
