'Noli me tangere' (Do Not Touch Me), 1852
Designed by John Hardman Powell (1832-95). Made by John Hardman & Co.
From the church of St James, Clifton, Oxford.
This panel is one section of an east window illustrating the Betrayal, Crucifixion and here, the Resurrection of Christ.
In 1845 the architect and designer A.W.N. Pugin persuaded his friend and fellow Roman Catholic John Hardman (1811-67) to expand his ecclesiastical metal works to include stained glass. Pugin had at last found a studio whose work satisfied his exacting standards and he propelled it to the forefront of High Victorian design.

Inv. No. 1975/5/7 Presented by the Diocese of Oxford.
