Demi Figure of Christ, c.1500
From St. John's, Little Brington, Northamptonshire.
This figure of Christ wearing the crown of thorns, exemplifies a late medieval preoccupation with Christ's human suffering.
The figure is composed of medieval fragments, probably assembled in the 19th century. The facial features, especially the heavy lidded eyes with their distinct pupil and iris, illustrates the growing realism of this period in glass painting.
Inv. No. 1975/2/2 On loan from Earl Spencer.
