Royal Arms of England and France, 1850
Possibly by Thomas Willement
From the Parish Church of Crockerton, Wiltshire.
This panel possibly by Thomas Willement, was removed from the redundant parish church of Crockerton, Wiltshire. It is one of two panels from the church. It displays a Royal Shield of Arms in fifteenth-century style, with quartered fleur-de-lys and lions. The shield is supported by two yales which in turn support an overlarge crown. A yale is a mythical monster with the head and body of a horse or antelope and the hindquarters and tail of a lion. It has a long flowing mane and tusks that it can swivel at will. The windows were restored by Salisbury Cathedral workshops.
