The arms of King Henry VI, c.1850.
Attributed to Thomas Willement (1786-1871)
From the Parish Church of Crockerton, Wiltshire.
The shield of arms of King Henry is supported by an eagle and a mythical beast - the yale, with the head of an antelope and the body of a lion. It is a faithful copy of a 15th century armorial in the great hall at Ockwells in Berkshire.
This glass is probably the work of heraldic scholar, designer and stained glass artist Thomas Willement. As in much of Willement's glass, this window combines traditional glass-painting techniques with those of enamel, used here to decorate the crown.
