Stamped quarries, 1849
Made by James Powell & Sons
From the church of St Thomas, Kingly Street, London W1.
This unusual east window is from St Thomas's church, Kingly Street, demolished in 1973. This panel displays the astonishing diversity of effects achieved by stamping, rolling and pressing soft glass into indented moulds. Some of the quarries have been backed with thin sheets of ruby glass.
These moulded and textured quarries enabled Powells to offer their clients a cheaper form of glazing.

Inv. No. 1973/1 Presented by the Church Commissioners.
